Revisiting sartorial resolutions

About a year ago, I made some sartorial resolutions for myself to break out of my comfort zone with dressing and get bolder with my style. I had an idea of how I wanted to dress, which included a lot more remixing, vintage and more theatrical kinds of things. How did I stack up in the last year?

Here's what I said:

Reading different sites and finding new kinds of inspiration is a mind-opening way to expand what I already have in my closet. And I'm over the old stiff rules of not doing certain color combinations or fabrics during certain seasons. So next year, I will try to forget those dumb rules. I will wear black and brown, pink and red, mustard and purple. I will mismatch my patterns. I will wear brocade in spring, linen in fall. I will no longer care about the invisible audience and dress for myself.

How did I do? I like being accountable to this blog and to myself, so here's what I did:

Let's take it line by line:

"I will wear black and brown..."

"Pink and red..."

"Mustard and purple"

"I will mismatch my patterns."

"I will wear brocade in spring, linen in fall."

"I will no longer care about the invisible audience
and dress for myself."

It's a very (abridged) version of the year in resolutions, but I feel like I did everything at least once. It also made me realize how limited my goals were, because I feel like I've grown more in my style than what these few pictures show of it. It's been a very slow journey, but I think I am beginning to figure out how to really express myself in clothes.

Are you making sartorial resolutions for the next year, and what will they be? Share!

I am going to be more adventurous with pattern mixing and also dressing more sexily - showing a little cleavage perhaps from time to time... meow!

I've been thinking about this lately as I just started blogging a year ago in january, and I think I've become a little more adventurous, used more color, but in the scheme of things I have a long way to go!!

  13. Who needs rules, anyway! You look lovely and put all those magazine tips to shame.

I'm honestly not much of one for resolutions. I think aspirations are great, but the idea of "resolving" to do something makes it seem like you've somehow failed miserably if you don't do it. I'm not motivated by things that feel restrictive, generally speaking. But I think it is good to have an occasion to stop, take stock, and ask myself where I want to be in a year. Hmmm....

I'm having a sweater and purse giveaway on my blog if you want to check it out.
