Padding my dress resume

Dress: Jennifer Moore, thrifted;
Necklace: Tayla platforms, Target;
Necklace: from Philippines, gift from Mom
(I have the nicest mother ever).

It's been raining a lot here. It will be unbearably hot and sunny during the day when I'm at work, and as soon as I get in the car to drive home,thundershowers begin. It's like the Universe strums its chin and says, "You have a photo blog? And you only take pictures from 6-8pm? I laugh at your plans, Dress Girl!" with a maniacal grin. And then makes it rain. I was so determined to take photos before trivia Tuesday night, Jeremiah and I drove to the farm park and waited for a break between showers...

I found this beauty of a dress during a thrifting jaunt over the weekend at Goodwill. Red with beige flowers? One hundred percent silk? Perfect length for leg elongation? Cute Grecian side tie-thingy? It might as well have had a neon sign over it saying, "BUYYY MEEE." I wonder how long the dress idled in obscurity in the overcrowded dress rack. Probably not that long -- I go often enough (about three times a month) that I can identify certain forgotten pieces, so this dress was probably very new to the thrift scene when I found it.

The dress has shoulder pads, and usually I go for the scissors and get rid of those things right away. But for this dress I kept them because I liked how they make my shoulders subtly jut out, to balance out the femininity of the dress. What do you think? To pad or not to pad?

Have a great Wednesday (it's my day off!),
signature1 by you.

  2. Great find on the dress - so pretty and fits you well.

    As for the shoulder pads, I think they look fine. However, if you were to wear the dress with a jacket over it, it may be too bulky for your shoulders? Just speculating?

  4. I do actually like the shoulder pads in the case of this dress. The question is, are they comfortable? If it's not an issue then I say leave 'em. Great thrifting find!

  5. What a great find! Awesome with those shoes too.

    I am also not a shoulder-pad person, so I would take them off. And like Lisa said, they may be too bulky with a jacket over top, too.

    It's such a fabulous dress!

  6. Personally I didn't even notice there were shoulder pads in it when I was looking at the pictures. I lvoe the print on that dress though, what a great find!

  10. Ugh, rain! It's been rainy up here, too. But you look divine in that gathered dress, my dear -- I don't usually go for prints but there's something celebratory about that one, no? It's almost Hawaiian!

  11. I agree fully with the decision to keep the pads on this little number! I am with you on the whole "grab those scissors immediately" thing, but I like what they add to the beauty and style of the dress here. it looks like it was made for you. and looks fantastic with those shoes! and it was thrifted as well! such a great find. I'm sorry to hear about the rain, but would gladly trade my 109 degree desert heat for some storms. I think the background in these photos with the sky looks lovely though. :) I haven't been commenting but I check here every day! I adore your style and the way you shoot your pictures. such inspiration. I sat down the other day and looked through your entire "dress project" posting area and have been inspired. I am the same way with dresses! I literally don't own jean. I just moved and am in the process of unpacking my closet and I think I am going to try a similar challenge. I will let you know if I am as successful. :)

  13. Oooooooh Joanne, this dress is so beautiful I'm gushing a bit. I like the shoulder pads on you, but I'm not sure. I think the dress would be just as beautiful without them.
