Ha, doesn't my title sound like a Nancy Drew book? I only need Bess and George and I'd be set to start my own detective agency.
Man, oh man, today's pictures come with a little bit of drama. Since we're going into the last week of The Dress Project starting today (yay!), I wanted to step it up a little bit by going to different interesting locations in my area. I researched a couple of different places that have a little history going on -- like the oldest building in the county, stuff from the Civil War era, and so on. So J and I decided that for today, we were going to visit a park -- a quiet, uncrowded area nestled in the suburbs that has a bunch of old farmhouses that have been preserved from the early 1900s. So we set upon our merry way with our Google map directions and off we went ... and the last stretch of our directions led us straight into a modern, townhouse neighborhood. Wha?
Maybe it's at the end of the road, we thought. Nope. Just mailboxes, more modern neighborhood and office buildings. We may be the last people on Earth that don't use a GPS, because we usually don't have direction problems like this, but after this whole silly episode I'd think about getting one. After about 20 minutes we gave up for the day and just went to our usual spot for pictures. The mystery park is still listed on the county Web site as a real, functioning park, and the only reason we can think of for getting the wrong address is that part of the park was sold for real estate property, and Google Maps hasn't updated. Or just got it wrong. Either way, I still want to find this idyllic-sounding historical place. I will find you this week, Mystery Park!
So, about this outfit. I promised myself this year for my style resolutions that I would play with different color combinations, like black and brown, black and orange, pink and red. I don't usually combine pink and red together (except here, but it's in a print), mostly because I always thought they competed against each other, but I figured if they're found in nature together, it's okay. I ended up liking this look a lot, especially with the matching belt. I got this dress several years ago at a secondhand boutique, and have since had it shortened because it was a little past my knees. It features a subtle print and shoulder bow ties (which I'm thinking about snipping because I think they're a little too twee, but I haven't committed to it yet). I wore this dress during one of the days on our honeymoon in Hawaii, so it's got a lot of fun memories attached.
What bold color combinations have you tried? What color combinations do you think will never work together? And have you, like me, had dysfunctional moments with your photo locations?
that dress is a really great shape for you! and the red/pink is great too! :)
ReplyDeleteI had an issue at a park last week- I was about to take my picture when trustees showed up to pick up garbage. I didn't want guys in bright orange jumpsuits in my photos, so I had to hurry and get my picture! LOL
You have so many dresses, it's crazy! I need to get that many, haha. I love the pattern on this dress! I have been attempting to mix patterns, but nothing too crazy.

I like the color combination! You look like a rose or a flower! I think
ReplyDeleteDarn, my last sentence got cut off.
ReplyDeleteI think color combos depend on shades and tones, etc. I keep thinking of some I don't like, but I always find exceptions.
I love the color combo and that dress is perfect for the weather.
ReplyDeleteAs for color combos, I've been exploring anything with yellow lately. I'm slightly obsessed with the color.
love the bright bold colours! its really perfect on you!

haha wellll i don't really venture out for photos yet. :) honestly just don't have the time/have other things to spend the time on with the little one and trying to fit in work outs and what not... maybe one day soon!
ReplyDelete5 more days!
Hahaha! I love the Nancy Drew Title. We have a newer GPS now, but sometimes my old one would tell me to turn left onto a road, but no road was there at all. It would be a field or a concrete wall.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is lovely on you. It really flatters your shape and skin tone.
I love the red and pink combo. Today I tried a bit of a mix, but color mixing is not something I think about generally. I should start starring posts with color mixes I like so I remember them in the mornings! And lately, my go-to feel-less-awk-while-taking-pics-in-public is a nice pair of large sunglasses. While I'm wearing them, I can pretend I can't see the other people (a skill that comes in handy during my commute as well. NYC subways are a special place)
ReplyDeleteyet another great dress! I am trying to think of a dress you have worn that I wouldn't wear! I seriously want to raid your closet!
ReplyDeleteI love the red! I think I'd cut the little sleeve things too, it'd be classier. All I can say is you are so lucky that you can drive to photo locations, I have to beg Chris :(
ReplyDeletehoooray! five more to go! ure doing an amazing job with this challenge lady! and u look amazing everytime!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress! Saying that I love pink. It looks lovely on you =]
ReplyDeleteP.S. Points for pairing pink and red together, I'm too chicken to do it in case it turns out horrible but your outfit looks awesome!
How pretty with the pink and red. It totally works and looks great with your skin tone.
ReplyDeleteI've been digging anything with yellow or orange lately, but it's hard for me to find a shade of yellow that works for me.
The color combination is fantastic, and I just love that dress on you. The color and fit is simply lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love this pink and red color combination! I usually tend to stay away from colors like that for fear of looking like a Valentine's Day card, but you make it look so lovely, I might try it.
ReplyDeleteI am totally lovin this pink and red together! Somtimes those two colors can be a bad mix, but you do it beautifully!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty dress on you lady! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like this! That dress is so pretty and it makes your waist look tiny.
ReplyDeleteAs for color combos, I tried red and teal over the winter (which I never would have tried before) and really liked it.
Also. I've read every single Nancy Drew book. I used to play Nancy Drew with my friends. My red headed friend was Nancy, I was George and we made our blond friend be Bess. She didn't like that. But she was a year younger than us so we were in charge haha.
That dress is SUPER flattering, doll! And I love red with pink. Magenta and navy is another unusual pairing I adore.
ReplyDeleteHow cute are you?! I also love a good dress and I tell everyone who will listen that women should wear more dresses in general. So glad I found your blog!
ReplyDeleteOoooh this is my favourite dress, so so pretty! I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh this is lovely, it suits you so well!
