Watching the Oscars ceremony last night was a perfect excuse to pull out some of the sparkle motion in my closet. I seriously love this dress. I bought it two years ago for banquet honoring my college newspaper, where I spent most of student days. This is exactly the second time I've worn it -- thank goodness for The Dress Project because I want to find new ways to wear it. It's got an intricate spiderweb-like design on the fabric, and I love the little ruffle at the bottom.
I bought the pair of shoes for my wedding -- yep, I wore them to the ceremony and reception. They weren't my first choice to wear while walking down the aisle, but the shoes I had my heart set on -- my sparkly, grey open-toed shoes that I wore to prom and swore that I would get married in -- didn't work height-wise with the length of my dress. So I ran to Target two weeks before the wedding to get a different pair. They're one of several items in my closet that need more attention -- I've only worn them three times in my life, but those events were memorable: my wedding, walking down the streets of Honolulu during our honeymoon and now.
The Oscars ceremony wasn't too surprising -- most of the winners were pretty much locks for their category, and the most contested ones (Best Actress, Best Picture) were a little anti-climactic. I did love Neil Patrick Harris' song-and-dance performance at the beginning and wouldn't be surprised if he was asked to host the ceremony next year.
Did you watch the Oscars this year, and what did you think?
Gorgeous dress. I just found your blog and love your sense of style.

ReplyDeletethis is a reallllly flattering shape on you! and the ruffle at the bottom is just the icing on the cupcake, in my opinion. love those kind of details on the "hem" of skirts... so fun!
ReplyDeleteand i've gotta say i admire your committment to those shoes at your wedding - dang! i slipped into ballet flats almost as soon as the ceremony was over. definitely didn't foresee how killer my heels were gonna be.

ReplyDeleteOoh, nice Oscar dress! I love the details too--beautiful pattern.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say that this outfit looks bride appropriate... like a bride leaving her wedding, or a bride in a very casual wedding.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you have so many dresses I'm starting to re-think my wardrobe. You always look so classy.

ReplyDeleteI do love this dress though.. the ruffled hemline makes me smile :) I love ruffled anything!
xx Love & Aloha
SOmeone referred to the oscars as a "verbal Blow j fest". I agree, the oscars are yawn worthy, minus the red carpet.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that you are sparkly and shiny and cute and way more interesting to look at.
:)
This look is so pretty. I'm wondering though how you would dress down this dress since it's pretty fancy- maybe with a tough jacket and boots combo?
ReplyDeleteI watched part of the Oscars and told my bf J that he's out the door when NPH switches teams and comes to court me! I am in love with him! Well actually both of them.
Love your dress and you have a cool blog! :D
